Kick Starting The Creativity

I guess this is what I get for slacking off. I’m sitting at an unnamed coffeehouse, trying to kick start my creativity for a second. Got out of the house for a bit only because the house = sleepy time or TV. Both good inhibitors for boredom and laziness.

So, I’ve posted up at this coffeehouse trying to think of something to type out. The keyboard is plugged in and the brain is starting to go, but there’s nothing - NOTHING - coming out. So, I’m gonna try and run this the ‘ol Brief Boredom style and just open up a document and continue to type. I guess I could talk about hope. Hope is a big thing and hope was one thing that Oklahoma City had in game two.

Then, the Spurs happened. Yikes, it was dominance on another level. I believe it was Scott Van Pelt who tweeted it out first, but the Spurs haven’t lost in 48 days. Now, you are asking the Thunder to win four out of the next five. Monster task, but not impossible. adidas has made a whole campaign behind that theory and, in a way, they represent that motto. adidas was dead in the water when it came to making basketball kicks. Then they happened to stumble upon Kobe Bryant, who kickstarted their return to prominence in the NBA. Honestly, let’s think about it, who in the NBA was wearing adidas in 1990-1996?

Kobe kickstarted the movement back, but adidas did their fair share and created the awesome ads, and marketed the “Feet You Wear” concept. Good marketing begat good design begat a return to prominence. Kobe left for Nike after 4 years, but the impact was there and everyone started to get back on adidas. Throw in the coup of pulling away Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett away from Nike, buying out Reebok, getting the NBA licensing deal, and signing Derrick Rose. The three stripes were making moves and were back in the front of mind of sneakerheads. Almost forgot to mention the pop culture resurgeance of the brand, starting with Run-DMC, the return of the B-Boys and B-Girls, the rise of soccer in prominence in America, and the collaborative efforts with Star Wars, among others.

Doesn’t hurt that adidas also outfits the World Cup winning Spanish side, Champions League winners Chelsea F.C., and the best player in the world, Lionel Messi. (BTW, I’m HELLA looking forward to Euro 2012. Darn ESPN marketing…) So, when adidas says “Impossible is Nothing” they mean it. Living Proof is the best proof of all.

Which leads back to the original point of the post… can OKC come back and win the series? Nope. Don’t see anyone stopping the Spurs this year.

Pancho Abalos presents TRIBUTES

Check out the TRIBUTES event, as artist Pancho Abalos presents new work celebrating the art style of the Edo period in Japan. Also being displayed at the event is artwork from twelve students from Wai’anae, Nanakuli, Kapolei, Waipahu, and James Campbell high schools.

All art displayed (unless otherwise noted) will be up for auction. Proceeds to benefit the Hawaii Arts Aloiance, a statewide non-profit committed to championing arts education. DJ Yogurt will be spinning music all night.

This all goes down this Saturday at the ING Direct Cafe n Kalakaua Ave. The exhibit opening starts at 6pm. For more info, check out www.panchosart.com

A few months back, Factor (FakeFour/Sideroad) created a contest where you can rhyme over one of his beat, and have it professionally mastered by the Gaff and released on Fake Four. Even though the winner gets announced next month, Kavet has gone ahead and released the track for public consumption. It’s a quick mix down just to get it out there.
